Chargin' Thunderin' Mustang Band

The Marching Band is the most prevalent/popular ensemble at City View High School. These students take pride in their collective hard throughout the year, and provide an atmosphere of family around the community. Starting in late July and running through the entirety of football season these students work tirelessly to put on an amazing show and strengthen their musical and physical skills. The marching band continues to work towards a tradition of excellence, and are working towards our best possible marching contest performances.

Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is the continuation of band after the marching season/football season has ended. Consisting of students ranging grades 8th-12th, these students prep individually for Solo and Ensemble, District, Region, and Area Bands with ultimate goal of receiving sweepstakes as a full ensemble in the Concert and Sight Reading portion of UIL contests in the Spring. These students work tirelessly to also perform a Christmas and Spring concert for our community, and they always look forward to other community performances such as graduation. The students in this ensemble strive for excellence, and do it all while participating/competing in many other organizations.

The fact of the matter is, if you want to be good, you really don't have a lot of choices, because it takes what it takes. You have to do what you have to do to be successful. You have to make choices and decisions and have the discipline to focus on the process of what you need to do to accomplish your goals.

Band Handbook Statement

Marching Band

  1. As Band is a year-long course commitment, all students are required to participate in the Marching Band from grades 8-12 (8th graders who were beginners as 7th graders may be held back in the Jr. High Band if needed).

  2. Students may be placed in various units like Drumline, Colorguard, Leadership Team or Drum Majors by audition. All students must actively play an instrument even if they are in the Colorguard or if they are promoted to being a Drum Major.

Wind Ensemble

Students will audition for chair placement in the Wind Ensemble. This audition process is at the discretion of the band director, however it will generally take place immediately following our final football game/before our Christmas concert.

We require all students to learn music for either the All-Region Band or at least one event at UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest. Leadership will be required to do both. There will be plenty of prep time, and music will be given out in a timely manner. We understand students get very busy as we move towards the spring semester.

Private Lessons are not required for membership in the Wind Ensemble but are strongly recommended. Individual, daily practice is required for all Wind Ensemble students.

Sectionals for the Wind Ensemble are required, graded rehearsals that will take place in the spring leading up to the UIL Band Contest. Other events such as Evening Rehearsals,Masterclasses, Help Sessions, and Mock Auditions are also required depending on the design and intent of the event.
